CellBio™ Technology

GBC CellBio™ is an automated liquid biopsy platform that captures and harvests circulating tumor cells (CTCs) — and other rare/abnormal cells — from a standard blood draw for clinical research and translational applications. Because collection is non-invasive and repeatable, CellBio™ enables longitudinal, real-time insights into tumor biology for screening, therapy monitoring, and precision care.

Unlike ctDNA tests, which are limited to nucleic acids, intact CTCs preserve cellular morphology and multi-omic signals (DNA/RNA/protein), supporting cytology, immunostaining, and molecular profiling on the same sample to inform oncology and pathology workflows.

What are CTCs?

Circulating tumor cells are rare cancer cells that leave the primary tumor and enter the bloodstream. Studying CTCs can reveal tumor burden, phenotype (epithelial/mesenchymal), and molecular changes associated with progression and treatment response.

How it works?

CellBio™ uses a microfluidic, size/deformability-based capture approach to enrich intact CTCs directly from whole blood, then harvests them for downstream assays (e.g., immunostaining, FISH, qPCR, NGS, cell culture). This marker-independent workflow supports diverse CTC phenotypes and reduces hands-on steps, streamlining rare-cell analysis.

Step 1:
Collect a 10ml EDTA blood sample from the patient

Step 2:
Insert the sample tube into the GB CellBio™ a2000 with the iFiltration™ box installed. No pre-treatment is required.

Step 3:
Press the button, and the system will automatically pass the blood through the iFiltration™ box.

Step 4 :
The iFiltration™ box will stain with the selected antibodies or Wright’s stain. CTCs or abnormal cells on the iFiltration™ box will be counted under a fluorescence microscope.
